Joe is part of a collaborative team of investigators in the Japan and Argentina that has published their findings of the interdependence of a persulfide-sensing repressor and polysulfide metabolizing enzymes in Rhodobacter capsulatus. Matthew’s paper connecting transition metal starvation to flux through the queuosine-tRNA biosynthetic pathway in a bacterial pathogen is accepted for publication in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA! This paper describes fundamental insights on QueD2, a 6-CPH4-synthase and “low-zinc paralog” that becomes cell-abundant under conditions of calprotectin-mediated Zn/Fe restriction in Acinetobacter baumannii. Congratulations Matthew!
